Last Thursday, I gave a paper at the Material Histories: Objects and Objectives Conference by the Material Histories Group at the University of Brighton.
Congratulations Bea! Your work is such an inspiration. And you keep digging deeper with this unique intersection of your textiles, the archive and Mantel's writing. One day, you're going to track down that Quylte of yelow Turquye Saten!
I really admire how you have developed so much beautiful work through a really deep dedication to one subject. I feel like I flit between so many things, though there are underpinning themes, that I haven’t yet found the thing that I want to fall in love deeply with, though I think I am getting closer.
I love how you have engaged with Cromwell and his time in so many ways. The way you work on understanding material history by literally creating new material is so inspiring.
SO happy for you Bea! Participants in the conference have no idea how fortunate they are to experience your work in person, with the added benefit of your words (and enthusiasm).
And I love seeing the unwieldy nature of The Cromwell Textile Cloth.
Stitching Cromwell turned into an epic some time ago. I think you need a new word, especially now I've seen that last photo!
Out of control? Haha!

Thank you. Once you find your subject it all falls into place, but it’s important not to force it.

Oh thank you - I love your description: “understanding material history by creating new material”. A perfect summary!
